Position OverviewAt Huitong School, giving students choice and voice is the glue connecting all the parts of our approach to learning. The College Counsellor position encompasses a collaborative effort benefiting students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the overall community. The College Counsellor is an integral part of students' educational environment and is a partner in supporting personalized college guidance in accordance with Huitong School’ mission and vision. The College Counsellor’s role aligns developmentally with each student's academic level and is key to a student’s academic success and college readiness. ResponsibilitiesWe believe all children are naturally curious and born to be great thinkers, forming meaning from inter****s with family, peers, teachers, and community. Core responsibilities of all Campus faculty members are organized loosely by the four program areas of the Whittle Ideal Candidate: (1) Core Curriculum, (2) Global Perspectives, (3) Personalized Pathways, and (4) Beyond the Core as well as those responsibilities expected as a member of a collaborative, professional learning community, and the expectations listed below:1. Provide individualized college counseling to students seeking a pathway into higher education and tertiary studies2. Communicate with students and parents about the college process3. Write comprehensive letters of recommendation for each student4. Assist with editing and reviewing essays and college applications 5. Develop and maintain strong relationships with college admissions professionals6. Stay current in the college admissions profession by visiting colleges, attending and presenting at workshops, and participating in conferences7. Coordinate and facilitate school-wide events related to the college admissions process8. Work collaboratively as a member of the Upper School team9. Give effective planning advice for students applying Universities abroad from lower grade onwards to achieve the best possible application results.10. All other duties as assigned. The duties described above are to serve as only as guidelines for, not limitations to, this position. 11. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the College Counselor will be responsible for other duties as assigned, including and not limited to advising, coaching, and chaperoning. The following are highly desirable and/or required qualifications for the listed position:1. Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s Degree (or higher) preferred.2. Must have minimum of 3 years full time College admissions experience at a School3. Must have fluency in Chinese. 4. Excellent writing and interpersonal skills5. Ability to think strategically about the college process and to advise students and parents accordingly6. Energy, collegiality, and a collaborative and empathetic personality7. A comprehensive understanding of the needs of domestic, international, day, and boarding students8. Strong organizational and time management skills 9. Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends at critical times of the application process10. Ability to meet deadlines 11. Strong computer skills 12. Drive and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment13. Experience of college counseling in an international context would be an advantage though is not required14. Familiarity with the states university application in the context of A-Levels, IB/IBDP and AP qualifications or other possible international qualifications15. Familiarity and experience with Test Preparation (TOEFL, SAT/ACT and SATII)
